October Leader's Meeting: PLEASE NOTE TIME/DATE CHANGE

Because of Rosh Hashanah/school holiday on October 3rd, we've made an adjustment to the leader's meeting.  I apologize that it is still not perfect but because of Fall Break, it is the best we could do.

The October leader's meetings will be held:

MONDAY, October 3, at 7 pm.

TUESDAY, October 4, at 10 am

Both meetings will still be at the Boys and Girls Club.

Song Fest

Troop 83 is hosting a singalong and s'mores campfire on Thursday, November 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 (no school on November 11th).    

Each troop should come prepared with a song or skit to share. Cost is $3 per girl to cover the cost of the s'mores and a patch. The event is limited to 60 girls, so register now.

Level Breakouts

First Aid/CPR Training

We have set up a 1st Aid/CPR Training for Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Congregational Church of the Valley, 12001 E Shea Blvd. The class will start promptly at 6 PM and will be over around 9:30 PM. Attendees should arrive 
10 -15 minutes early so that we can start on time. The cost is $40.00 per person and checks should be made payable to Pima Neighborhood.

We need a minimum of 8 to hold the class and registration is due by October 11. If we do not have 8 by that date, the class will be cancelled. Please give your payment to Julie Gregory at one of the neighborhood meetings or mail it to Julie Gregory (See email for address).

Fall Product Program

Troops wishing to participate in the Fall Product program need a Fall Product Manager to sign the following form:

Go to the bottom of the page.  This is an on-line form. Do not fill in the parent permission slip.  That will open as a pdf and is also linked to that page.

After signing the form, a receipt will be emailed to the product manager and that form can be forwarded to me at pima.neighborhood@gmail.com.  Packets for your troop can then be picked up at any time.

If you were not at the leader's meeting, please let me know and I will also have a troop packet ready for pick up.

August Leader's Meeting Agenda and Recap

MSE Report -- 
Re-registration:  Susan reminded everyone that they need to be reregistered if they haven't already -- they will be propagating all the info into Nut-E next week.

Recruitment -- how did it go?  We did a little brainstorming.

• Redfield reported a great recruitment, Copper Ridge was lower than expected (perhaps because of the big storms). 
• Susan Rees said that many schools are planning to attend the upcoming Curriculum Nights as another way to recruit. 
• Redfield has gone paperless and that's difficult, but other schools are allowing paper flyers.
• Suggestions from the group were to put GS info into the PTO newsletter. 
• Julie suggested leaders / organizers decorate a wagon with GS stuff so that parents see it when you go to meetings or around the school.  
• Lee suggested that maybe a visible service project, such as taking on a garden that everyone sees or committing to raise the flag could raise awareness of GS. 
• Please do some brainstorming.  (Do schools have morning announcements?)

Summer Day Camp Wrap Up -- Diana  -- it was FABULOUS!!! Several people said they couldn't attend because it was later in the season. Girls and adults said it was great!

Fall Product -- We have packets to hand out.  The dates for the sale are on the envelope!  Sign up on the clipboard for the number of girls selling.  The link for the troop manager agreement will be on the blog soon--or find it on the council website.  Order forms will be handed out at the next meeting, after you've signed the Troop Manager agreement.  The new items include chocolate-covered almonds and pistachios.  Prizes are all koala themed.

Back to School Ice Skating - August 27, 6:15 pm  -- we talked about how great this is as a recruitment activity. 

Girls can come if they're interested in GS as long as a parent is there. Girls can bring friends who are interested. It's a great tradition for the troops so they can get together every year and catch up. 

Payment for patches will be at the event and THEN I will order them. Cost is confirmed at $6. It is not a drop-off activity. Each troop needs at least one leader there... individual girls can go with a parent.... basically, each girl needs an adult there that they can go to if there is a problem.  Diana will be there in the lobby the whole time and will take patch orders there.

• We talked about troops sponsoring service projects for this. 
• We brainstormed some possible ideas that we could add. 
• We also emphasized that Cadettes + (or even 5th grade Juniors) could be there to help at the event or even lead a project.

Other upcoming events -- I talked about the Howdy Day we used to do as a "back to school" event.  We talked about how it would be great to have some dances and other events in the fall instead of the spring.
How about a dads & daughters Halloween-themed dance? (the pictures would be sooooo cute!)

If you would like to donate Shoeboxes, paracord, or no-sew fleece kits please contact me by September 1, so I know how much in the way of donations we are receiving.  Shoebox Ministry accepts donations as follows:

"Shoebox Ministry is always in need of toiletries. We gladly accept full-size, travel or hotel-sized items. Our most needed items are shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes and disposable razors.  Many of these items can be purchased for less than one dollar at your local Dollar Store, Big Lots or Walmart.  When shopping for your own family, pick up some extra items to share with a family that desperately needs your help."

If your troop would like to donate items please deliver them the day of the event.  

RSVPs must be in to Marissa by September 15th to participate.
