Monthly Service Projects in Pima!

NEW this Year: Monthly Service Projects for All Ages!

One of our goals this year is to provide our Neighborhood with more opportunities to give back to our community. Participating in a variety of community service events will help our girls understand what it really means to live by the Girl Scout Law, whether it's by using (and re-using) resources wisely or making the world a better place!

September: Cards for Covid Fighters
For September's service project, Pima Neighborhood Girl Scouts will create cards thanking front line workers who are faced with COVID-19 daily, including hospital workers, firefighters, and grocery store employees. We will host a Zoom meeting for girls to make and share cards together on September 13 at 2pm, but feel free to participate even if you can't attend the event. October: Birthday Bags & Toy Drive
In October, we'll celebrate our Girl Scout founder's birthday by filling birthday bags and collecting toys for Arizona Helping Hands. We will host a Zoom meeting for girls to decorate and fill their gift bags, and also spend time celebrating Juliette Gordon Low with some extra special birthday fun. http://pimaneighborhood.blogspot.com/2020/09/october-community-service-birthday-bags.html

November: Cards for Veterans
This service project is in honor of our country's Veterans. We will host a Zoom meeting for girls to make cards together and learn about Operation Gratitude, an organization that shares cards and care packages with deployed troops, Veterans, and first responders.

December: Caroling
During the month of December, we'll be getting creative with caroling for seniors in our community. Depending on local health recommendations, this could include social distanced caroling outside senior living facilities, recorded and emailed songs for seniors, or other options.

December: Adopt a Family
The Pima Neighborhood Girl Scouts have been participating in this service project for over 20 years with the City of Scottsdale's Adopt-a-Family program. Some years, we have adopted a Senior. For each participant, we purchase at least three gifts of around $100 in value and a $30 gift certificate to a grocery store to help provide the holiday meal.

January: Canned Food Drive
After the holidays is the perfect time to clean out your pantry and share your extra non-perishable food items. This year, we'll be collecting canned food for the Navajo nation who was hit especially hard by COVID-19 during 2020.

February: The Jared Box Project
In February, we'll celebrate Valentine's Day by filling boxes with small toys and activities for kids at local hospitals.  https://pimaneighborhood.blogspot.com/2020/09/february-service-project-jareds-boxes.html

March: Treasures for Teachers
During the month of March, Girl Scouts and their families can clean out their closets and set aside donations of educational toys, books, games, supplies, and small furniture to donate to the Treasures for Teachers Thrift Shop in Tempe.

April: Community Improvement Day
In honor of Earth Day, the Pima Neighborhood will be hosting a community improvement day. Girls will work together to come up with ideas on how to make our world a better place, including trash clean up, gardening, planting, and more.

May: DIY Toys for Animal Shelters
Girl Scouts from Troop 2010 will guide the Pima Neighborhood in creating twisted t-shirt dog toys, sock toys for cats, and cookie box homes for bunnies. These will be gifted to one or more local animal shelters.

Specific details will be released in the weeks leading up to each event. Even if you can't attend the event, we welcome you to participate individually or with your troop. We'll be sending out details that you can follow, with or without attending the event.

Pima Neighborhood Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to join in on each activity.

We can't wait to give back to our community together!
