Girl Member(s) to be added to the Pima Service Team


The Pima service team will be adding girl members to the team this year. Girls who will be senior or ambassador Girl Scouts in 2019-2020 are eligible to apply.  Duties will include:

1. One to two service team meetings over the course of the year.
2. Attendance at leader's meetings, usually the first Monday of the month (Aug-May, excluding April)
3. Participation in recruitment activities at local schools.
4. Attending the annual council meeting.
5. General advising of the service team from the girl perspective.
6. Saying "yes" when other opportunities for service arise.

Summer Day Camp: Journey Across America

What is Summer Day Camp?

An awesome, week-long summer day camp. The theme this year is A Journey Across America.


Daily activities include swaps & crafts, science, dance, music, and sports.  Our day camp fills up fast because it's so fun, so register now!

Day Camp is planned and organized by Girl Scout Troop 2256, a multi-level Girl Scout troop from Pima Neighborhood (part of Girl Scouts―Arizona Cactus-Pine Council, Inc.).  Camp activities are led by volunteer Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts and supervised by adult volunteers. 

When?

We have  scheduled camp for June 10-14 (Monday-Friday), 9 am-2 pm daily.  Girls can be dropped off starting at 8:45 each day so that they camp day can start promptly at 9 am.

Where?

Girl Scout Camp will be held at Mountain View Presbyterian Church located at 8050 E Mountain View Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85258  

Who Can Attend?

Day Camp is limited to 100 campers who are registered in a Pima neighborhood troop (Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scouts, who have just completed K-5 grades in May).  Our staff will be 20 older girl volunteers (grades 8+) and at least 20 adult volunteers (18+ years). 

If your daughter is in a troop outside of the Pima Neighborhood, she may attend day camp but you are required to volunteer for at least two days to assist us in meeting girl/adult ratio.

**Girls must have current membership with Girl Scouts.** 

Girls living in the Desert Mountain High School complex who are not Girl Scout members may also attend but will be required to join Girl Scouts. Membership is $25 and girls need not join a troop (although we are happy to assist you in finding a permanent Girl Scout home).  
Program Aide Program for Grades 6-9


Girls who have just completed grades 6-9 may register for a special older girl program.  This program is designed to give them the leadership skills to be camp counselors and to assist with other neighborhood programs.  Girls who enroll in this program will earn their Program Aide award during the week.  This program is limited to the first 20 registrants.  If your daughter is just completing 5th grade, she may opt to be a camper or for this new PA program.  Please think about the choice carefully; a very mature 5th grader will do fine in this program but many girls this age will "fit" better in the regular camp program. 

What is the Cost?

$150.  There will be no refunds or partial refunds for any reason. 

We need adult volunteers who are registered/background checked members of GSUSA.  To guarantee a spot for your camper, agree to help as an adult volunteer!  

Pima volunteers can earn a rebates of up to and $100 if you agree to help as an adult volunteer.

How Do I Register?

Fill in this online form and then mail your completed permission slip/health form with a check for $150.  Both steps must be completed by May 1st in order to secure a spot at camp.

Could Camp Be Cancelled?

No way!  Summer Day Camp 2019 will happen rain or shine!  The only reason camp could be cancelled is if there are not enough adult volunteers to meet minimum safety standards. 

 If cancelled, all campers will be notified and registration fees refunded. You can help us out by giving us a day or two of your time!

What Does my Girl Scout Need to Bring?

Everyone should bring their own sack lunch Monday through Friday. Everyone should also bring a bottle of water each day.  Refrigerators and microwaves are not available.  

Girls need to wear closed-toe shoes and we encourage girls to according to the theme each day.

The themes for the week are as follows:


  • Monday: New York, New York
  • Tuesday:  New Orleans, Louisiana
  • Wednesday: Austin, Texas 
  • Thursday: Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Friday: Washington, DC

Drop Off, Pick Up, and Safety

We will strive to meet every Girl Scout safety recommendation.  All girls must be signed in and out by a parent/guardian each day.  If she is going home with someone else, we must receive a note from the parent.  Please pick up your camper on time.  No supervision will be provided before 8:45 or after 2:15 pm.

Leader's Gala 2019


What: Mark your calendars on April 1st for the annual Pima Neighborhood Leader's Recognition Gala!  

Dinner  will be served, presents will be handed out to all attendees, and volunteers will be honored.

If you want to enjoy an adult beverage with your friends, this is a BYOB event.

Where: The event will be start at 6:30. Location still TBA.

Volunteer Appreciation Awards




It's that time of year when we honor all of our fantastic volunteers and give special recognition to those that have gone over and beyond to give their girls a fantastic experience and to contribute to the neighborhood. We need your help to point out those volunteers that deserve this special recognition. 

Neighborhood Awards (due March 25th)

The Volunteer of Excellence Award is given to a volunteer within a service unit who has contributed outstanding service while directly partnering with girls in support of the Girl Scout Mission.  To nominate a volunteer, please follow this link. Previous recipients are not eligible. Please feel free to email Diana and ask her if your candidate has already received this award.


 There are some new volunteer awards available this year.  If you are interested in nominating someone for one of these awards, please email Diana.

 The Outdoor Pathfinder Award recognizes volunteers who make outdoor experiences in Girl Scouts possible and provided creative, recreational, and educational outdoor opportunities for girls. Service can go beyond a troop experience to make the outdoor experience available to a wide number of girls. GSACPC will provide this pin at no expense to the Service Team.

The Innovator Award Recognizes a volunteer who brought the Girl Scout program to her/his service unit in the most creative or innovative way. 

The Rising Star Award is for an outstanding NEW troop leader  and recognizes a volunteer during their first three years, for service beyond the expectations for the position, or recognizes volunteers who have volunteered a minimum of 6 months to maximum of 36 months who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway.

The Standing Ovation Award recognizes a product program volunteer (Fall or Cookie) who has gone above and beyond the expected product sales duties and given service of exceptional benefit which warrants recognition. 

The Sustained Service Award recognizes continued outstanding service for 3 years after receiving the Volunteer of Excellence Award. Contact Diana to find out if your nominee is eligible for this award.

The Go-Get-Her Award recognizes a volunteer who has put significant effort and creativity into finding and recruiting more girls into Girl Scouts. 

Council Recognitions

Nominations and endorsements need to be completed and turned in by September 1

Appreciation Pin
 - This is given to a volunteer for outstanding service in at least one geographic area, neighborhood, or program delivery audience. 

Honor Pin
 - This pin is given to a volunteer for outstanding service in two geographic areas or program delivery audiences.
