Adult Recognitions 2023

 

It's that time of year when we honor all of our fantastic volunteers and give special recognition to those that have gone over and beyond to give their girls a fantastic experience and to contribute to the neighborhood. We need your help to point out those volunteers that deserve this special recognition.

Neighborhood Awards (due March 1st)

The Volunteer of Excellence Award is given to a volunteer within a service unit who has contributed outstanding service while directly partnering with girls in support of the Girl Scout Mission.  To nominate a volunteer, please follow this link. Previous recipients are not eligible. Please feel free to email Diana and ask her if your candidate has already received this award.

The Outdoor Pathfinder Award recognizes volunteers who make outdoor experiences in Girl Scouts possible and provided creative, recreational, and educational outdoor opportunities for girls. Service can go beyond a troop experience to make the outdoor experience available to a wide number of girls. GSACPC will provide this pin at no expense to the Service Team.

The Innovator Award Recognizes a volunteer who brought the Girl Scout program to her/his service unit in the most creative or innovative way. 

The Rising Star Award is for an outstanding NEW troop leader  and recognizes a volunteer during their first three years, for service beyond the expectations for the position, or recognizes volunteers who have volunteered a minimum of 6 months to maximum of 36 months who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway.

The Standing Ovation Award recognizes a product program volunteer (Fall or Cookie) who has gone above and beyond the expected product sales duties and given service of exceptional benefit which warrants recognition. 

The Sustained Service Award recognizes continued outstanding service for 3 years after receiving the Volunteer of Excellence Award. Contact Diana to find out if your nominee is eligible for this award.

The Go-Get-Her Award recognizes a volunteer who has put significant effort and creativity into finding and recruiting more girls into Girl Scouts. 

Council Recognitions

Nominations and endorsements need to be completed and turned in by September 1

Appreciation Pin- This is given to a volunteer for outstanding service in at least one geographic area, neighborhood, or program delivery audience. 

Honor Pin - This pin is given to a volunteer for outstanding service in two geographic areas or program delivery audiences.

April Hike: Latigo Trail to Sidewinder Overlook

Latigo Trail to Sidewinder Overlook - Girl-made trail

Morning Stroll: We'll meet at the Pima Dynamite trailhead (near Pima and Dynamite) and stroll up to the Sidewinder Overlook, giving us a nice view over the desert. Then we'll loop back down. The entire walk is about 2.5 miles and is only about 300 feet elevation. Check out the spring flowers!

A crested saguaro (pictured) is a highlight of the Latigo-Sidewinder loop hike.

Lost Dog Wash to Ringtail trail to Anasazi Spur - Girl-made trail

Morning Stroll: We'll meet at the Lost Dog Wash Overlook (near 124th St & Via Linda) and stroll up to the Lost Dog Wash Overlook, giving us a nice view over the valley. The loop trail is a little less than 2 miles and only about 250 foot elevation. Should be beautiful, come join us!

Pima Leadership and Service Tshirts

Pima has been ordering neighborhood  shirts for many years.  The back of the shirt is sort of a history lesson in all the activities that have been planned and hosted or enjoyed by older girl troops and groups in the neighborhood.  

It changes to reflect the numbers of the current troops that have girls in grades 6-12 and are, therefore, considered what we used to call the Super Troop but we now call the service and leadership team. All girls in these grades are welcome and encouraged to participate in the many volunteer opportunities we have to run events in Pima or to choose an event of their own to host. If you are an adult volunteer, you are also automatically a part of this team.

The shirts became a "thing" one year when we watched the various troops group themselves at a cookie rally based on their troop or cookie shirts.  We could visually see that the girls weren't crossing troop boundaries and we thought that designing a shirt that we could all wear to emphasize that we are all on one team. Without hard evidence, it does appear that the strategy worked; we have many girls making friends across the neighborhood!

We have a new design and our "on-demand" system to order shirts is in place, so it's time to let us know if you want a new shirt!

My First Cookie Booth

Pima has a program that pairs Daisy Girl Scouts and Daisy Parents with an older troop for their first cookie booth experience.  Here are the rules:

• The expectation is that girls will attend for about 15 minutes to get just a taste of what it is like.  
• Last year, girls chose to stay longer, and that is up to you and the hosting troop when you are there.
• A registered parent must attend with their Daisy.
• Girls should come in uniform (white shirt, black bottoms, vest).
• Daisies will receive a patch for attendance.

Please note, if you open up your booth to Daisies, you must still adhere to cookie booth staffing guidelines. No more than FOUR girls at a booth at any time.  Troops 2010 and 2256/4727 have opted to staff to a maximum of two older girls per booth to accommodate Daisy slots.

We would like parents to read over the boothing guidelines here before they arrive at their first cookie booth experience.  (The do's and don'ts are at the bottom of the page).
