Thinking Day

Pima Neighborhood
THINKING DAY 2015

Each year on February 22, World Thinking Day, girls honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts by taking time to give thanks for their international friendships and remember that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community—one of nearly 150 countries that are members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

February 22nd, 1:30-4:30 pm Mountain View Park Community Center
8625 E Mountain View Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85258

Cost is $1 per girl and includes a patch and passport.

Each troop needs to pick a country and prepare (and decorate) a booth that includes information, a food, a craft, a SWAP, and a physical activity (game or song, generally) related to their country.  Girls will be issued passports to travel from booth to booth, so a stamp or sticker is needed to have to mark those passports.   Your country choice will be confirmed as soon as you turn in your registration form (sent via email).

The following countries have been claimed so far: Switzerland, New Zealand, Egypt, Spain, Greece, China, Canada, Japan, Italy, England, Holland, India, Russia, Mexico, Ireland, France, USA, Germany, Scotland, and Colombia.

Attendance count so far (check back for updates): 178

Vista del Camino Wrap Up

Leaders & Families,

Thank you for participating in the Vista del Camino holiday Adopt-a-Family program.  Pima and Indian Bend neighborhoods sponsored 55 children this year, ensuring 30 families have a very special holiday to remember.  Additionally, we are instilling in our girls the spirit of Girl Scouting, which is to make the world a better place.

May we continue to teach courage, confidence, and character, shaping tomorrow's leaders!
Happy Holly-days, :-)

Vista del Camino

Please remember that Monday, November 3rd, is the deadline for participating in the Vista del Camino Adopt-a-Family program.

We have 21 children adopted so far, only about a third of our normal participation.  Signup can be done at the Leader meetings on Monday or by email to me.  Thank you SOOOO much for those of you participating; we're helping to provide a holiday to children that would otherwise go without.

Below is the information about the program:

Adopt-a-Family Program
Vista del Camino, Scottsdale Services

Vista del Camino Social Services provides food, clothing, and emergency assistance to Scottsdale residents in need.  Many members of our community need the support of others to provide their children with a special holiday.  Each year over 400 families are helped for Thanksgiving and 550 for Christmas.

The Christmas Program emphasizes the need of children.  Vista staff provides adopters with a brief biography about the family, including gift suggestions and sizes for the children.  You are asked to provide 3 gifts chosen from the ‘wish list’ provided by each child (total child adoption costs $100.)  Please consider also donating a $25 grocery gift card for the Christmas dinner.  If you wish to provide more for the holiday meal, please do so in the form of additional grocery gift cards (rather than one larger one.)  In addition to Christmas, Vista will also honor other holiday traditions such as Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Ramadan.

I will email adopted family information as soon as I receive our assignments.

Thank you on behalf of 100’s of families in need in Scottsdale!
We’re making the world a better place.

Last Chance to Register for Encampment

Please reply directly to Lee (refer to email for her email address).

For troops 6th grade and up.

Last chance to register to go camping Halloween Weekend!

We're tent camping at Willow.  Archery/challenge course are available if requested.  We'll do our own cooking.  Price will be $15 + food (should be able to eat for $15-20 unless we decide on surf & turf) + challenge/archery.

We'll need to come up with something yummy for menus.

Some girls want to come up on Saturday morning so they can trick-or-treat on Friday, which is fine.  Or we can tell ghost stories at the campfire on Friday.  Program ideas are welcome or we can just hang out or hike.

Let me know if you weren't already signed up and want to go ASAP.  So far I have troops 2010, 1169, 1618, 1870 going.

If any older girls want to come up without their troop, they're welcome.

Encampment Update

I'm working on finalizing the menu and site assignments, but here are a couple of updates:

Encampment Information Packet:  http://www.eternity.com/gs/fin-14fa.pdf

(Both driving directions and a camp map are on this document.)

Willow Springs General Information:  http://tinyurl.com/ACP-WillowSprings

It looks like we're going to get a bit of rain! :)
- Please make sure all of your girls bring raingear or a poncho or something.
- Throw in a few large garbage bags--always useful if anyone forgets.
- Bring an extra pair of shoes and a couple extra pairs of socks.
- Bring old shoes and socks (it may be muddy).

We'll play the activities by ear.  Throw in some cards and board games, or a craft, just in case.  Sometimes the girls just enjoy spending some cabin time, giggling and talking.  No matter what happens, they'll have fun!
