Save the date: June 14-18

Watch this space for details as we work out how to do camp safely this summer.

Theme will be "Around the World"

The in-person option, if available, would follow all council guidelines. Masks would be required and groups would be limited to ten girls to ensure social distancing.

March Hike

March 27, 8 am

The trail we chose is the Javelina Trail near 105th & McDowell Mtn Pkwy.

Meet at 8. Let's meet near the Twisted Lizard at 105th/McDowell Mtn and walk down 105th to pick up the trail. That should have enough parking, I think.

Meeting place address:  10401 E McDowell Mountain Ranch Rd #1, Scottsdale, AZ 85255

The trail is paved, no facilities.  There's a bit of a steep spot in the middle but it looks pretty easy.  We'll hike it counter-clockwise, which has a more gradual incline.

Everyone make sure to wear closed-toed shoes, hat and sunscreen.  Bring a water bottle!

We'll hand out the scavenger hunt at the meeting place.  See you there!

May Hike

For our May hike, it'll be getting a little warmer so we're heading out of town!

This hike can be done by families or troops, following current Covid protocol.
Date:  May  8.  Meet between 9-10am before heading down the trail.
Location:    Water Wheel Falls
Navigate to:  Water Wheel, Arizona 85541

This location is off the Houston-Mesa Rd, northeast of Payson AZ.  It's about 1.5 hours from Scottsdale.

The trail is about 1.6 miles, out and back.  Lots of walking/climbing over large rocks, and you'll be hiking down a stretch of the Verde River so wear old shoes. Everybody can cool off and play in the river.  There are some pretty waterfalls and stunning rock formations.

As always, wear closed-toed shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.  Bring a water bottle.  Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day!

This is a perfect location to work on your Nature Photography badges or do some Citizen Science like iNaturalist or just cool down and play. :)

April Hike

For our April hike, we'll go over to Papago Park to visit some really neat geology and see some wildlife while we're there!

This hike can be done by families or troops, following current Covid protocol.
Date:  April 17.  Meet between 8 and 8:30 at the parking lot.
Location:  Hole in the Rock
Navigate to:  Hole in the Rock, 625 N Galvin Pkwy, Phoenix, AZ 85008
Meet near ramada #8, near the Hole in the Rock trailhead.

The Hole in the Rock Trial is 0.3 miles, a very easy hike with really cool geology!
There's also a sweet little 1/2 mile long nature trail loop, right across the little road.

Plan to spend maybe an hour, or more if you want to wander around and explore.
Be sure to wear closed-toed shoes, a hat and sunscreen.  Bring a water bottle.

When you finish, you'll note that you are right by the Phoenix Zoo and the Botanical Gardens for another possible outdoor adventure!
