Cookies for the Military

Cookies for the Military

Troop donations for the military can be dropped off at Diana's house after the cookie sale ends.  Cookies are collected by the Air Re-Fueling Wing of the Arizona Guard and distributed to members in all branches of the military both here in Arizona and abroad. An end date will be posted at a later date.

Small donations (less than 3 cases) can be left at my front door, just let me know you are coming. Please do not place them directly in front of the door; this is a tripping hazard.

Large donations: email ahead so that we can transfer them directly into the garage. (Addresses and emails are on the neighborhood roster or in the private Facebook group).

Please bring your cookies in the right cases! Even if it is just one box, please bring all cookies in the right case.  The donations will be in the thousands and the base needs to pallet them up for the journey. We need full cases in the right boxes to do that.

Adopt a Family

Thank you for your support for our annual Adopt-a-Family project!  Pima has been participating in this project for decades, and each year we sponsor more than 25 Scottsdale children whose families live in poverty.

The Adopt-a-Family program is run by the City of Scottsdale. Families are interviewed by city social workers, who record children’s requests for three gifts for the winter holidays.  Susan Vargas will email assignment information to you in mid-November.  Every effort is made to match troops with a child near their age if they request it.

You purchase at least three gifts for a total value of at least $130 for each child based on their wish list.  You also provide a $50 gift card to the family’s grocery store to help provide a holiday meal.  Troops frequently supplement the three main gifts with clothing and/or stocking stuffers, and sometimes also include a small gift for the parents such as cleaning supplies.  Many troops also include gift wrap, bows, and tape for the families. All gifts are given to the families unwrapped, so the parents can have the pleasure and dignity of wrapping their own children’s gifts. The total expenditure per sponsored child is at minimum $180.

You will drop off a donor report and all the gifts, bagged and labelled for each recipient to Susan Vargas's home on Saturday December 13 or Sunday December 14.  Thank you for making a child's holiday special!
