Summer Reading Challenge 2021

 Keep your mind nourished with Pima's summer reading challenge and earn a patch!


To earn the summer reading patch, earn points by reading from June 1 to July 31:
 
Daisies: 20 points
Brownies: 35 points
Juniors: 50 points
Cadettes/Seniors/Ambassadors: 75 points

*starred items are timed for junior level and above at 20 minutes per activity to receive points. If you are a superstar Daisy or Brownie reader and you are already reading chapter books, please apply the time rule when calculating your points.

  • Visit your library's website 
  • Join the library's summer reading program   https://maricopacountyreads.org/
  • Read a book to a family member*
  • Read a book to a pet*
  • Listen to an audiobook*
  • Tell a friend about the summer program
  • Read outside* 
  • Read a nonfiction book*
  • Recommend one of your favorite books to a friend
  • Read a couple of poems
  • Read about about an inspirational woman*
  • Find out was a Little Free Library is
  • Read a book that has won an award*
  • Read a book to a sister Girl Scout*
  • Read a book to a family members virtually*
  • Read a book about another culture*
  • Read a book with a historical setting*

5 points each
  • Make a list of books you want to read this summer
  • Search for those books in the online library catalog
  • Find out where a Little Free Library is near you
  • Make a bookmark and put it inside the next book you want to read
  • Read a magazine or newspaper
  • Sign up for a library card
  • Read a children's book in another language
10 points each
  • Find a cookbook and make one of the recipes
  • Illustrate a story you read
  • Read a story and then retell it by acting it out
  • Write a story and read it to someone
  • Check out 10 books at the library (curbside pick up is available for social distancing) 
  • Complete the Barnes and Noble reading journal and take it to the store for a free book. 



To earn your patch, keep track of the books you read (and time if you are junior level and above).  Turn in your activity log to pima.neighborhood@gmail.com by July 31st (please send in titles of books listed in the 1-point category and please share any illustrations or stories that you create!)
